I am a retired nurse who spent many years as a Manager on the Medical Unit of our local hospital. This gave me first-hand experience observing families struggle with the dying process and resultant grief.
My parents (Barnstaple, North Devon, UK) always supported their local hospice. They were on a monthly plan where the equivalent of $14 per month went directly from their bank account to the hospice coffers.
I originally volunteered to be on the Hospice Georgian Triangle Foundation Board because of my personal experience; respect, dignity and professional care during my husband’s end of life journey. I wanted to give back.
Today is April 1st, and that is an important date. Not because it is April Fools! But because Volunteer Appreciation Week falls in April. Here at Hospice Georgian Triangle, 80% of our workforce is made up of volunteers. So we are celebrating Volunteer Appreciation MONTH! And what better way to start out this important month, than to put a call out there for more volunteers!
We are pleased to announce the launch of our new website. In 2019, we set out to redesign the Hospice Georgian Triangle website to better communicate to families in crisis dealing with life-limiting illness.
We’re grateful to the Ontario Trillium Foundation for the grant that allows us to equip and staff these new programs, to The Audrey and Donald Campbell Family Foundation for assisting with leasehold improvements, and to you, our community, for helping to make our new location with expanded services possible.
Due to the global pandemic, we have regrettably cancelled the 2020 Care Gala. However the need for fundraising is greater than ever before.
It may not be ‘business as usual’ for Hospice Georgian Triangle and the HGT Foundation during this unprecedented time in history, but we want to assure our community that we continue to be here for you.
