Meet the 2023 June Callwood Award Winner: JoAnne Wright

JoAnne Wright has served as a volunteer for the past eight years. She has volunteered as a kitchen angel preparing meals for patients and families.

In the Hospice Georgian Triangle kitchen, she shares her talents in making delicious and comforting meals. She also shares her warm, friendly, and colourful personality that brings joy to all that she interacts with.

In the past year, she committed to helping the Hospice Georgian Triangle Foundation, by making thank you calls to donors showing appreciation and gratitude for their support.

In the past six months, she has contributed to more than 1,000 people being contacted.

JoAnne’s calls are an invaluable asset. Her skill in showing appreciation to others for their generosity encourages donors to continue to support the mission of Hospice Georgian Triangle. She makes people aware of the impact and importance of their gift. The conversations she has with community members is important for public-awareness and sustained connection to the “Hospice Georgian Triangle Family.”

In addition, JoAnne volunteers at community events and fundraisers supporting Hospice Georgian Triangle, committing further time to advocating for compassionate hospice palliative care. She can be found at a registration desk, selling tickets, participating in fundraising events, supporting participants, and much more. JoAnne can always be counted on to help, wherever needed, with her infectious smile.

Her unwavering commitment to the missions of Hospice Georgian Triangle and The Hospice Georgian Triangle Foundation hospice is truly inspiring.

But why does JoAnne volunteer? She says it best:

“After working for 50+ years and retired I decided that it was time for me to give back to the community.

I wanted to become a volunteer with HospiceGeorgian Triangle because this is a cause I am very passionate about. Now with time on my hands, I thought it would be a great way to use my free time.

It was also a way to meet new people and find out why they volunteered and what they were passionate about and enjoy interacting with them. It also would give me a chance to feel part of a team.  Volunteering also gives you a sense of satisfaction knowing you are making a difference in the lives of others.

I have been volunteering at the Hospice Georgian Triangle Campbell House for 7+ years which includes being a Kitchen Angel, helping with fundraising events, Christmas dinners, Cookie baskets at Christmas and deliveries to the community clients and over the past months making Thank you Calls to people who have donated to the Hospice Georgian Triangle. Also have volunteered with other community organizations.   When people remember me from the Hospice it makes me feel so proud that I am helping the community and I can say that I do volunteer at the Hospice.

JoAnne, you’re a shining example of the power of volunteerism and the positive impact it can have on the lives of others.

From all of us at Hospice Georgian Triangle, congratulations – we’re thankful for you!
