Dale’s Wish: A Final Family Boat Cruise

Made possible through Hospice Georgian Triangle’s Living Wish Program

On a sunny Sunday afternoon, June 29, Dale’s family gathered on the Muskoka Steamship docks for a very special day — a final family voyage aboard the beautiful Wenonah, made possible through Hospice Georgian Triangle’s Living Wish Program.

Dale, who currently lives in Collingwood, grew up cherishing boat cruises on Ontario’s scenic lakes. Her fond memories inspired a final wish: to bring her family together for a lunchtime cruise, reliving traditions that had long brought her joy.

Dressed smartly in boating attire and sporting a striking pair of sunglasses gifted by her son Jason, Dale beamed with excitement. Jason gladly took on the role of family fun coordinator, helping ensure the day was filled with laughter and connection.

Before boarding, local photographer Greg Poole captured heartfelt family moments on the dock. They posed with the historic Segwun — America’s oldest operating hand-fired steamship — and the beautifully restored Wenonah, named in honour of the first steamship to sail Lake Muskoka.

The day was filled with stories and nostalgia. Dale’s brother fondly recalled being there in August 1996 when Prime Minister Jean Chrétien rededicated the Wanda III, another treasured vessel in the fleet.

As the boat set off, Dale shared an emotional reflection, her eyes sparkling:

“I feel excited and happy that my family has the opportunity to do this today.”

Together, they created a memory that will forever be cherished in their hearts.

At Hospice Georgian Triangle, we believe that even in life’s final chapter, there’s still time for meaningful moments. Dale’s story is a beautiful reminder of just that.
